Master Electrician Licensing
Master electrician licenses in Colorado are the top credentials that prove someone’s advanced expertise and leadership in electrical work. It ensures safety and compliance while offering career growth chances, making it a vital step for experienced professionals in the field.
A Master Electrician must have one of the following:
- Graduate electrical engineer of an accredited college or university AND 2,000 hours of construction experience earned in no less than 1 year
- OR Graduate of an electrical trade school or community college AND 8,000 hours of experience earned in no less than 4 years
- OR 2,000 hours of experience earned in no less than 1 year in addition to the JW requirements
Some hours of which must be supervision (supervision hours will not be applied to the total number of hours to prevent double credit for work done alongside supervisees) while in possession of a Journeyman Electrician license.
Note: It is not possible to go from Apprentice or Residential Wireman to Master if you are using experience to qualify for the Master license.

If you would prefer, all of the above courses are included in an electrician program, which provides the trade school education required to sit for the Master Electrician Exam. Students will still need to complete the required work hours in the field before they can sit for the exam. The program includes 45 hours of instruction in each of the courses listed on the Journeyman tab and this tab. We are pleased to offer a discount for those who pay for both years up front.
